2018 Grammy Winners That Have Visited KGSR

Did you watch last night? The GRAMMY Award Ceremony has to be one of our favorite TV nights of the year, and we we’re so happy to see some very notable KSGR alumni walking across the stage to accept their gold-plated gramophones! Here’s the three artists who have performed at KGSR before they became 2018 GRAMMY Award winning artists:

Alessia Cara – Best New Artist

We first met the then 19 year-old pop singer backstage at ACL Fest when she stopped by to talk with us about her new music and adjusting to her rapidly growing fame, just before her Austin debut at Zilker Park. We we’re lucky enough to have her stop by the Dell Music Lounge just a week later for a live performance and interview, including an acoustic rendition of her breakout single, “Here”.

Ed Sheeran - Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance

Still relatively little known in the States at the time, the UK based singer-songwriter made some time to hang out with us at the Four Seasons to play a few songs for our 2012 SXSW broadcast before his performance that night. The venue he was preparing to perform at? Stubb's. Just a year later he was opening up the Frank Erwin Stage for Taylor Swift on her RED tour, and by 2015 he was headlining the arena's stage himself! Pretty impressive. Watch his 2012 SXSW performance and a fun little interview we did with him during another visit in 2013 down below!

Portugal. The Man - Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

With a cool 8 full-length records under their belts, the Alaskan indie rockers are certainly no newcomers to the music scene, but they've only just earned their first taste of international mainstream success with their super smash-hit (and now GRAMMY-winning) breakthrough single, 2017's "Feel It Still". Before their much-hyped return to the ACL stage last year, bassist Zach Carothers and keyboard player Kyle O'Quin talked to Andy backstage about The Chamanas, an El Paso band that they have since befriended who perform Spanish covers of Portugal. The Man's songs. Watch the interview below:
