In case you missed it, Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile are teaming up on a new record (and tour) this fall. The two just announced in a Rolling Stone interview that their forthcoming album, Lotta Sea Lice, will be out in October.
How did this whole thing begin? Well, according to the Rolling Stone interview, they were acquaintances and admirers of each other's work, and then Vile started writing a song for Barnett back in 2015 with "a fantasy that she would sing it with me." Barnett dug the idea of a fun side project, so a few months later, they decided to make it all happen.
Kurt Vile told Rolling Stone, "The vibes were strong." They even ended up with more material than could fit on one album. Read the whole interview here.
Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett are ending their tour right here in Austin at ACL Live at the Moody Theater on November 11th, but alas it's already sold out.
