HOME, it might be said, is where the heart is. And in this case, HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers) is a local non-profit group which aids some of Austin’s aging and vulnerable members of the musical community with housing aid and assistance. The group is for musicians, and largely by musicians, having been founded by, among others, Marcia Ball, Carolyn Wonderland, Ruthie Foster and Shelley King. HOME was formed in 2012 when Miss Lavelle White moved to Austin and was unable to afford a place to live. Miss Lavelle,a legendary blues and soul artist who shared the stage with Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin and more, now has a regular residency at Antone’s Home of the Blues every Sunday at 5:00 PM
