Confessions of a Comic Con Nerd

It's not all just SuperHeroes

Since I was a kid, I loved music, reading, and cartoons. Two of my passions come together in one great medium and that’s comic books. I am a HUGE fan of the DC Universe, and a proud member of the Comic World Nerd Nation. I can talk for hours about The Flash (the greatest superhero EVER), and all of his fantastic superpowered friends.

My last couple of weekends I spent some time at Comic Conventions in Houston and San Antonio. For those of you who haven’t been, it’s a really great opportunity to jump into a magical world, let your imagination run wild, and let your inner kid come out and play. The cons are filled with celebrities, awesome cos players, amazing artist and lots of times authors of novels and books. That is one group I really like discovering and talking to as I am an avid reader. There is something special about talking with an author and having a personal connection when you read their works. Usually if they travel the con circuit, you will see them again and you have a chance to chat about what you read, and of course pick up their new projects.

I met Dicey Grenor - @DiceyGrenor - at the Austin Wizard World show a couple years ago, and immediately fell in love with “Sleepy Willow’s Bonded Soul” her unique take on vampires, lust & love (to put it very mildly). I saw her again in Houston and grabbed up the rest of her books which should keep me engaged through at least Halloween.  Another author I really enjoy, that I met at a Comic Con is J.R. Knoll. - @Brawrloxoss - I picked up his book “Wonder Woman Legacy” a story about Wonder Woman’s daughter come to our world to prove herself and take up the WW mantle (without permission). It was a surprise to run into him again in San Antonio, where I discovered that he has a sequel!! Although it will be a little while before I begin reading it. Both of these authors are right here in Texas – so that makes it even more special for me.

Maybe I will start my own “Lone Star State of Mind” Readers edition. I am no Oprah Winfrey, but I do love a good book!  What books are you reading? Do you have a favorite author that I should check out? Let me know on Twitter @LVNeedsSleep
