Raised in South Central Los Angeles, DUCKWRTH always found music from the city captivating, but his mother urged for a different life. “A lot of the people coming up in our neighborhood, they were, like, joining gangs so she just didn’t want me to be a part of a gang,” said the artist in an interview with NPR. Growing up in a relgious household, his music options were limited; DUCKWRTH’s childhood consisted of drawing and writing, ultimately leading to making music.
Finding his creative path, the rapper used music as a way to open up about his background.”It’s me revealing, like, the realities right now. And it’s also being able to speak to people, but with their language.”
