The Lumineers co-founder Jeremiah Fraites paid tribute to Kurt Cobain on the 27th anniversary of his death by covering Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.”

“Out of all Nirvana’s songs, ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ is my favorite. I remember listening to this song in the car while riding to middle school with my mom. I think it has one of the strongest melodies ever written. I did my best to honor this song, especially on this day of remembrance as it marks the anniversary of his death. Rest In Peace Kurt,” Fraites said in a recent press release.

It will also be featured on Fraites’ newly announced EP titled Piano (Acoustic), which will be released on April 16 via Dualtone. His EP will include seven live tracks from his debut album that was released earlier this year. Fraites also covers Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over” in the forthcoming EP.

“I wanted to record a handful of songs from my album Piano Piano live and purely on piano, so you guys could hear them as I heard them when I was writing them. Please enjoy these acoustic renditions of my songs and a couple of covers,” said Fraites.

Here is the track list for Fraites’ new EP, Piano, Piano (Acoustic):

  1. Tokyo (Acoustic)
  2. Maggie (Acoustic)
  3. When the party’s over (Billie Eilish cover – Acoustic)
  4. Possessed (Acoustic)
  5. An Air That Kills (Acoustic)
  6. Chilly (Acoustic)
  7. Heart Shaped Box (Nirvana cover – Acoustic)
