Watch the Music Video for The 1975’s New Single ‘The Birthday Party’

The 1975

By Haley Cinotto

Ahead of the release of their upcoming album Notes on a Conditional Form, The 1975 shared a new single ‘The Birthday Party.’ This is the fifth song and fourth proper single after ‘The 1975’, ‘People’, ‘Frail State of Mind’, and most recently ‘Me & You Together Song.’

The newest single was released along with an animated “digital detox” music video. The band collaborated with director Ben Ditto and co-director/animator Jon Emmony to create a 3D animated video of a place where people can go and unplug from the online world. The 1975’s frontman, Matty Healy, described ‘The Birthday Party’ as being about the “interesting social minutiae of house parties.” The multi-layered narrative of the video connects with the song’s message of struggling to connect with others, because human connection cannot be achieved through technology or social media. Fans can expect to see elements of the new music video, in addition to their digital detox website Mindshower, during their 2020 North American tour.

Notes on a Conditional Form is out on April 24th and their Spring tour will take off just three days later in Houston before visiting 23 other cities. On April 29th, The 1975 with Phoebe Brifgers and Beadadoobee will be stopping in Austin at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater at the Circuit of the Americas. Tickets are on sale now
