The 2017 season of Unplugged at the Grove came to a close on Thursday night, with the dedication of the Jimmy LaFave stage. Jimmy was booked to play the September 14th show, but after he passed away on May 21st, it was decided that his show would not be re-booked with another band.
There were several heartfelt speeches from family and friends of Jimmy LaFave. Marsha Milam, who books Unplugged at the Grove told of how when the series first began twenty-four years ago, many of the bands she contacted were reluctant to get involved, but Jimmy happily stepped up to play the first Unplugged at the Grove. Jimmy's son Jackson and nephew Jesse gave sincere thanks, and told stories of coming to Jimmy's shows at Shady Grove through the years (and enjoying the green chile cheese fries.) Former KGSR DJ Roger Allen spoke of first meeting Jimmy LaFave at an after-hours campfire jam at the Kerrville Folk Festival. And former KGSR Program Director Jody Denberg performed the Bob Dylan song that he and Jimmy used to play together, "Buckets of Rain." Then the spotlight was shone on the sign above the stage as the audience erupted into thunderous applause..
