"It was too much," Portugal. The Man vocalist and songwriter John Gourley told Billboard in regards to hearing the big news Tuesday morning. The Alaskan alt-rocker claims he woke up to over 100 unread texts, and was shocked to learn that after 10 years of recording and touring with his bandmates, they had been nominated for their first Grammy.

The group has flown largely under the radar throughout their career until the release of their latest single, "Feel It Still", which turned out to be a major crossover hit; even breaking the record for most weeks spent at #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, and is still sitting pretty today at #8 on the Hot 100. The breakthrough single is what's earned their 2018 nomination, putting Portugal. The Man up for the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category amongst The Chainsmokers and Coldplay, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber, Imagine Dragons, and Zedd and Alessia Cara.

Even though the nomination feels like it's "as high as it gets" for Gourley, the band wont be slowing down anytime soon; "'Feel It Still' did really well, and as much as everybody wants to tell you to live in the moment and just be happy that you're nominated and be happy with the success of the song, anybody who wants to work on their craft and get better at it is going to say, 'Huh, I better start working on my next song,'" he added.

Watch the video for their Grammy nominated track below and cheer them on at the big award ceremony which goes down Sunday, January 28th live on CBS!
