On Tuesday, Pearl Jam kicked off their 2018 world tour in Amsterdam – but not before making touching personal dedications on stage to the late Anthony Bourdain and to David and Andrew Spade, the brother-in-law and husband of the late designer Kate Spade. Both celebrities, who were major cultural icons and parents to young children, lost their lives to suicide just two days apart this month. Eddie Vedder added that the two were “deep in [the band’s] hearts,” before starting the show.

The Seattle rockers let the tender and poignant moment resonate with emotive opener “The Long Road” from their 1995 two-song single “Merkin Ball.” Pearl Jam’s choice to honor their late friends in such a special way is one we won’t soon forget, and the same surely goes for those in attendance.
