Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Honor John Lennon on 40th Anniversary of Death

The Beatles

Today marks 40 years since the world lost an icon.

John Lennon was shot outside of his apartment building entrance in New York City on December 8, 1980 where he lived with his wife Yoko Ono. Many have honored the icon’s death today on social media, including bandmates Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

McCartney tweeted a photo of him sitting beside Lennon in a studio with a caption that said, “A sad sad day but remembering my friend John with the great joy he brought to the world. I will always be proud and happy to have known and worked with this incredible Scouser! X love Paul.”

Ringo Starr shared a photo with Lennon and asked “every music radio station in the world sometime today [to] play Strawberry Fields Forever.”

Yoko Ono took this day to emphasize the severity of gun violence in the United States. “The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 40 years, Sean Julian and I still miss him.”

Let’s all pay tribute to the legend. Stream “Strawberry Fields Forever” below.
