From the Vault: Dawes Backstage at ACL 2013

Dawes

Folk rock band Dawes will be releasing their new album Passwords tomorrow via HUB Records! The album, which was inspired partly by front man Taylor Goldsmith’s own attempt at adulthood and marriage following a troubled past, is meant to provide hope and perspective on the modern world. Passwords is the first project from the group since their 2016 record “We’re All Gonna Die,” which (surprisingly) featured easy-going folk tunes reminiscent of a 1970’s America song. The two released singles “Never Say Goodbye” and “Telescope” from this latest album, on the other hand, are introspective, polished and seem to focus more on telling a story. With this purposeful “first step into adulthood as a band,” Dawes has seemingly committed to a more conscious direction with their music, involving commentary on politics, current times and life in general – and the metaphorical passwords needed to find one’s way through it all.

In honor of their new album, we’re throwing it back to when Dawes stopped by our ACL Live Backstage Broadcast way back in 2013 to perform their track, “Just Beneath the Surface”. Watch below and grab your copy of Passwords tomorrow!
